Introduction Imperforate Anus is a congenital disorder in which a baby is born without the normal anal opening. The anal opening allows defecation from the rectum to the outside. Also called Anorectal Anomaly, this relatively common defect affects one out of every 5,000 children.
The degree of abnormality can vary, and an imperforate anus can occur in different forms. In some cases, the rectum may abruptly end and not connect with the colon or the rectum may open to the urethra, urinary bladder or genital tracts. A highly imperforate anus depicts the complete absence of a rectal opening. | |
