Dr Umanath Nayak is a Consultant Head and Neck Oncosurgeon at MediAngels.com. In his vast experience as a surgeon caring for people for head and neck cancers, Dr Nayak has seen many inspiring stories and this is what prompted him to write a book.
"Enduring Cancer – Stories of Hope", a book by Dr. Nayak was released recently at an event in Hyderabad, India. In "Enduring Cancer" Dr. Nayak has chronicled the experiences of cancer survivors, some of whom he has treated, and some cases that he has been witness to.

The book deals with a whole range of experiences of people who have battled cancer, right from the moment they were diagnosed with the disease, through the fight that they put up mustering all the will power they could. The book also portrays how the lives of the patients and their family members were affected by cancer, and how they dealt with it, sometimes with fear and sometimes with a glimmer of hope.

Dr. Nayak said that he was inspired to write the book after meeting a young patient who had to be operated for cancer at the age of 24. Her attitude towards the disease and the treatment made Dr. Nayak sit back and think about a patient's perspective of dealing with cancer. The book also includes a short section on how Dr. Nayak's father survived colon cancer. The patients whose battles have been described in the book received complimentary copies at the launch function.
