Introduction Cooley's anemia is a rare blood disorder in which body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin (the carrier of oxygen in red blood cells). The formation of abnormal hemoglobin results in excessive destruction of red blood cells (RBC’s). This then leads to anemia. Cooley's anemia is seen most commonly in people living in the Mediterranean countries and Asia. The people affected with this condition require regular blood transfusions.
