Introduction

The heart can be described as the sole body pump for blood that keeps the rest of the body going. When you suffer from cardiac arrest suddenly there is a problem with your heart meaning your body is denied the vital blood supply it needs to function. When you suffer from a cardiac arrest suddenly the brain is denied of this crucial supply that in turn affects the rest of the body leading to death since the other body parts get instructions from the brain. Hence cardiac arrest, sudden can be described as cessation of the normal circulation of blood due to the failure of a person’s heart to effectively contract. There is a difference between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack. Important to note though, is that a heart attack can cause a cardiac arrest.

Epidemiology:
15% of the deaths in the western countries can attributed to cardiac arrest  further to this men are more prone to it than women until they reach the age of 85 years old and chances of getting a cardiac arrest among both genders becomes equal.
