Introduction

Torticollis is a stiff neck associated with muscle spasm or contracture leading to tilting and turning of the head to one side.  The muscles affected are principally those supplied by the spinal accessory nerve.occurs due to contracture of the sternocleidemastoid muscle.

It may present in infancy as swelling in the muscle also called as sternomastoid tumour. The swelling usually resolves in 2-3 months, leaving a residual contracture in 10% of the cases.
