Henoch-Schonlein purpura is a disease inwhich there are purple spots on the skin, joint pain, gastrointestinal problemsand glomerulonephritis (a type of kidney disease). Purpura, arthritis andabdominal pain are the "classic triad" of Henoch-Schonlein purpura(HSP). Henoch-Schoenlein purpura (HSP) is a self-limiting disease.

The condition receives its name from thetwo physicians who first described this condition namely John Schonlein andEduard Henoch. It is a small vessel vasculitis having immunoglobulin A (IgA),C3 and immune complex deposits in the arterioles, capillaries and in thevenules.
