Introduction

They were named after the German Martin Naboth who live from 1675 to 1721. He was an anatomist who wrote about them in the year 1707. The treatise was tilted De sterilite mulierum. The nabothian cysts had been talked about earlier by a French surgeon called Guillaume Desnoues who lived from 1650 to 1735. The reason as to why the condition is not spelt with a capital first letter is because it is a derived word.

They are small mucus filled bumps that are formed on the cervix. They are rarely cancerous. There are glands lined in the cervix that normally secrete mucus.
