Introduction
It is deformity of the finger due to the affection of the extensor tendon (cord like structure present on the dorsal aspect of fingers). The extension at the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint gets affected. Either the tendon or the bone where tendon inserts over bone is injured which causes Mallet Finger. If the problem is caused by a fracture of finger, it is known as mallet fracture.
This injury is commonly seen in athletes or sportspeople nevertheless people not associated with any such activity also show similar condition following direct trauma to the finger tip when it is extended or kept straight open.
