Treatment
The treatment method will be decided upon by both the patient and doctor after considering a number of factors. The basic options available normally include one or more options including the following:

Surgery: If spread of tumor is not beyond the lung tissue, then it is generally excised surgically. But it can recur anytime later. Surgery is a chosen if patient is free from other medical condition (obesity, diabetes, hypertension, lung disorders etc).Surgery is also performed to partially or completely remove lobe (part of lung) or whole lung.

Radiation therapy: Radiation like high energy X-rays are used to treat lung cancer. It can be used along with Chemotherapy, and also in severe cases of lung cancer.

Chemotherapy: It is a treatment of choice when other than lung tissue get affected by cancer.Also used before or after surgery or in conjunction with radiotherapy.

Newer approaches: Thre are newer approaches to the cancer treatment which are under trial. There is a lung cancer vaccine which is under trial, which is known as human melanoma antigen-A3 or MAGE-A3 Antigen: Specific Cancer Immunotherapeutic (ASCI), which boosts one’s immunity to fight selectively against cancer cells.
