Blood test: Cancer marker test, Complete blood count with ESR

Computed Tomography (CT) scan: CT scan is ordered to confirm the diagnosis. It helps in deciding the stage of cancer and its treatment accordingly. Low-dose helical CT scan or spiral CT scan helps in diagnosing small tumors.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): These scans are used to know about tumor's exact location, for treatment and surgery.

Positron emission tomography (PET): These are proven as helpful in determining the extent of spread of decease and whether its surgical repair is possible.

Chest Radiograph: A chest X-ray showing shadow of tumor with or without an involvement of adjacent lymph nodes.

Mediastinoscopy: A procedure used to see the contents of middle portion of chest and obtaining tissue sample if required. It is used to diagnose and decide treatment of cancer.

Bone scan: To know whether cancer has reached to the bones.
