After a complete examination both neurological and physical, a neuroimaging study is dome which determines if you have AVM. There are three main techniques which are used to give a clear visual of the brain hence searching for the AVM. They include:-
Computer tomography (CT)
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
If the patient has all the symptoms of AVM, medical specialists use the CT scan to do the examination. This helps approximate the main site of bleeding. Sometimes the CT does not give a clear view hence the MRI is used. It is a more sensitive and detailed diagnosis method.
Extensive investigation has not yet been carried out on the survival benefits for those patients who have been treated with either the surgical or the radio-surgery method. Studies are being done internationally to determine the management strategies that are the best for patients with the not yet ruptured AVMs.
