Introduction
Ainhum is a condition in which there is painful constriction of the fifth toe usually followed by bilateral auto amputation in coming time. There is usually a constricting scar in the form of groove or a band.
Another condition observed is known as Pseudoainhum which is present in some hereditary and non hereditary conditions which leads to the formation of such constricting scars on the digits.
Prevalence is mostly in the black coloured people. Mostly in tropical regions though in temperate regions this conditions has been reported.
The literary meaning of Ainhum is fissure. It was first used by da Silva Lima from Bahia. Ainhum means saw in the language of a Nigerian tribe, Lagos.
