Introduction
Adenomyosis can be defined as a benign invasion of endometrium (inner lining of uterus which is shed in menses) in the myometrium (muscle layer of uterus) resulting in a diffusely enlarged uterus. While Endometriosis is a condition in which the tissue that behaves like the cells lining the uterus (endometrium) grows in other areas of the body.
Adenomyosis and endometriosis may represent different forms of same disorder characterized by impaired cell responses to hormones secreted by ovary.
